The Center for ICT and Society

The Center for ICT and Society

The Center for Information and Communication Technologies and Society (CIS) at the SMC was selected as the recipient of a large-scale Social Science Korea (SSK) project of the National Research Foundation of Korea. The center will receive KRW 2 billion (including matching fund) over the span of four years from 2019 to 2023.

Since 2014, CIS has received a research grant of KRW 990 million from the SSK project (small-scale, medium-scale). The Center, led by Director Seongcheol Kim, an SMC professor, aims to increase the understanding of society through research based on socio-technical, technological, and industrial perspectives of new information technologies, such as 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), thereby solving the social issues resulting from those technologies.

CIS provides research grants to graduate students, sponsors them to attend international academic conferences, and assists them in publishing their research papers in world-renowned journals. Moreover, the CIS conducts a research program to encourage and vitalize the intellectual exploration of undergraduate students.

Students who are interested in participating in research projects at CIS may contact Professor Seongcheol Kim (hiddentrees@korea.ac.kr) or Dr. Dokyung Kim (iamdokyung@naver.com).
