[Global Service Center] operates a mentoring program to support foreign new students in adapting to university life and settling in Korea.


If you wish to become a mentor for new foreign students in the Department of Media Studies, please refer to the eligibility criteria below and apply via the email provided.

a. Number of Recruits: 2


b. Eligibility:

   1) Undergraduate students in the Department of Media Studies with at least 4 semesters of enrollment (Excluding students on leave of absence or exceeding the standard number of semesters)

   2) Completion of at least 12 credits in the previous semester with a GPA of 2.0 or above

   3) Open to both domestic and international students

   4) Proficiency in English and/or Chinese is preferred

      ※ Mandatory participation in weekly online mentoring seminars (activity hours will be recognized)

      ※ Mandatory participation in monthly online mentoring meetings (activity hours will be recognized)

Program Introduction and Key Activities


Program Introduction:

- Each mentor will assist a group of foreign new students (regular undergraduate students) from various departments throughout the 1st semester in terms of academic and daily life aspects.

- Most mentees are proficient in at least one language, either Korean or English.

- Mentors and mentees will be grouped preferably within the same major. In the absence of a mentor from the relevant major, students from the same college or similar majors will be grouped together.

   ※ However, even after the above process, if there is a lack of mentors in the relevant major, mentors from other majors may be assigned.


Key Activities:

- Academic Support: Providing advice and assistance in planning semester courses, campus activities, supplementary explanations to understand course content, providing basic education in the major, advice for preparing for major/general education subject exams, assistance with Korean language test (TOPIK) preparation, etc.

- Career Guidance: Introducing various career options (related to the major) for future employment in Korea, introducing relevant on-campus/off-campus programs, introducing programs from affiliated colleges/departments, etc.

- Life Support: Providing essential information on academic administration, graduation requirements (by department), portal ID creation, course registration methods, how to use Blackboard, 1st-year seminars, Academic English, required general education subjects, etc., for new students. Guiding on how to utilize other on-campus services (library, student counseling center, One-Stop Service Center, etc.), identifying and seeking solutions together for individual needs or difficulties related to academics and life through regular counseling during the semester.


Activity Period:

- Activity Period: 1 semester


Benefits of Participation:

a. Scholarship Payment: Differential payment to mentors based on the number of hours spent on activities and satisfaction evaluations after the semester. However, scholarship payment will not be provided if the minimum criteria are not met (separate guidelines for hours and amounts will be provided).

    ※ Payment Date: After the end of the semester and completion of the mentoring program, payment will be made to the student's own account (not deducted from tuition fees).

    ※ It is possible to receive multiple scholarships simultaneously, but there is a maximum limit for recipients of the GKS Excellence Scholarship for Foreign Students.

b. Issuance of an activity certificate in the name of the director of the International Office

c. Issuance of a Cucurbit Certificate

d. Additional points for future exchange student applications

    ※ However, if the mentoring activities are not completed successfully, the above benefits will not apply.
