Korea University TV Broadcasting Station (KTN)

 

KTN (Korea University Television Network) was established in 1997 as Korea University's central TV broadcasting station, covering a wide range of content from entertainment to documentaries, dramas, music, and campus events. KTN exclusively selects students from the Department of Media & Communication as its members, a testament to the trust in the potential of media studies students. KTN strives to enhance Korea University's visual culture by engaging with viewers through diverse videos and live-streaming events. It continues its endless efforts to create visuals beyond imagination.

 

Departmental Clubs

 

After graduation, the Department of Media & Communication offers students a miniature version of the related industries they will enter. Through practical subjects, students apply the knowledge and skills they have learned directly. The department hosts various clubs encompassing fields such as social sciences, journalism, film, advertising, and PR. Additionally, there are clubs for hobbies such as photography, music, basketball, and soccer. These clubs provide opportunities for students to engage in activities related to their interests and gain valuable experiences.

 

 

  • -Advertising and PR Club

    “Change is our vitality, stagnation is our demise.” Following this motto, the Advertising and PR Club strives for innovative ideas. Established in 1986, it is the oldest advertising and PR club at Korea University, producing many professionals in the advertising industry. In the first semester, the club focuses on advertising and PR case studies, hosting seminars with industry professionals and providing Adobe tool training. Activities include creating actual advertisements. During the summer vacation, members visit the Busan International Advertising Festival to learn about the latest advertising trends. In the second semester, the club participates in competitions and presentations.

  • -Photojournalism Society

    Established in 1971, the Photojournalism Society focuses on understanding and critiquing social phenomena through the medium of photography. Society members regularly participate in outings and seminars, studying the technical and academic aspects of photography. The photos captured during outings are exhibited in the "Newbie Filter Exhibition" held in May and the "Regular Photography Exhibition" held in November. The society also develops and processes photos in the darkroom located in the Media Building Basement 1.

    The Social Science Research Society serves as a place where members can discuss complex issues from various perspectives. It values respectful discussions, allowing members, regardless of seniority, to share their thoughts openly. It aims to foster critical thinking and writing skills, producing well-rounded individuals capable of analyzing societal issues.

  • -Film Society

    The Film Society aims to deepen understanding of movies. It hosts viewing seminars and production seminars, where members discuss and critique films, write reviews, and learn essential skills like scriptwriting and directing. Additionally, the society organizes activities such as overnight movie marathons, attendance at film festivals, and movie screenings during the Media Culture Festival in November.

  • -Journalism Society

  • The Journalism Society explores the conditions for good journalism by critiquing articles and understanding societal realities. In addition to theoretical knowledge, members gain practical experience by writing articles. The society publishes newspapers twice a year, enhancing writing skills and developing a critical perspective on journalism.

  • -HUGE (Media Department Magazine Club)

HUGE, established in 2006, is the only magazine production and publication club in the Department of Media & Communication. It covers news and events within the department in three issues annually: the Freshmen Edition, June Edition, and November Edition. Through interviews, photoshoots, and poster design, members gain hands-on experience in magazine production.

  • -Newbies (Media Department Baseball Club)

  • Newbies is the only baseball club in the Department of Media & Communication. Training sessions are held every Saturday morning, and the club aims to win the Korea University President's Cup held from April to May. The sport of baseball requires specific equipment, making it challenging for newcomers to join without proper guidance. Therefore, Newbies offers coaching from professional coaches during vacations and once a month during the semester, enabling members to improve their baseball skills rapidly.

  • -Distortion (Media Department Rock Band)

    Distortion, the unique rock band of the Department of Media & Communication, allows members to play musical instruments and sing. Weekly practices are held, and the band performs at two regular concerts, Shinbangnet concerts, and Freshmen New Learning Space concerts each year. In addition to playing music and performing, members participate in various activities such as MTs, trips, and picnics, fostering strong bonds among peers.

  • -Rotemasse (Soccer Club)

    Rotemasse, meaning "red media" in Korean, is the soccer club of the Department of Media & Communication. The club participates in various university competitions and regularly organizes friendly matches and internal matches. Rotemasse provides an enjoyable and free-spirited atmosphere for soccer enthusiasts to play the sport they love.

  • -Masquette (Basketball Club)

    Masquette, short for Mass Communication + Basketball, is the basketball club of the Department of Media & Communication. The club conducts systematic basketball training and games in the indoor gymnasium every week. Players have the opportunity to enhance their basketball skills while interacting with students from various academic years.

  • -Pistachio (Performing Arts Society)

    Pistachio, formerly known as the Black Music Society, expanded its scope to cover various genres of music in 2016. The society primarily organizes a performance during the university festival in the first semester and a regular performance in the second semester. The university festival performance involves auditions and event planning, leading to a special stage performance. During the regular performance, society members actively participate in planning, promotion, ticket sales, and performing, allowing them to express their talents and skills fully.
