Vision & Goals
Smart media, especially OTT (Over-The-Top), refers to a service that provides media content through the Internet and mobile devices. The size of the global OTT market has grown by about 23% on an annual average since 2016, rising to USD 126 billion (KRW148.7 trillion) in 2021, and the domestic OTT market is estimated to have reached KRW 900 billion to 1 trillion in 2022.
Our center is an elite research group composed of top experts with outstanding expertise and competence in the technology (AI, communication technology, security, brain engineering) field, data science (big data application development) field, and media industry (market policy) field. We aim to grow into a global-level research group that leads OTT research through convergence research that encompasses OTT-based technology, intelligent technology, data science, content, and platforms.
For 8 years from July 2020, our center has developed innovative technologies and policies through interdisciplinary, intergenerational, regional, industry-academic joint and cooperative research and innovative and challenging research as an R&D and policy partner of the Ministry of Science and ICT. We want to contribute to the development of the media ecosystem. In addition, we aim to cultivate global-level researchers equipped with an understanding of smart media technology, data analysis on the ecosystem, and social science insights on markets and policies.
