On November 15 (Tue), Korea University's Department of Media hosted a special lecture and talk by Professor Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the World Wide Web (WWW). Professor Tim Berners-Lee was selected as the winner of the 16th Seoul Peace Prize for leading the data sovereignty movement through the Social Linked Data (SOLID) project by opening the World Wide Web free of charge.

 

The lecture,held at Cinema trap in Korea University's media hall, was the only lecture Professor Berners-lee gave during his visit to Korea to attend the Seoul Peace Prize. He explained the evolutionary course of the 1989 Webber's course. He developed an app called SOLID to respond to various problems in the Internet space, including monopolies, personal information leaks, hate speech, and fake news. Through this, users can secure data sovereignty, and as a result, the online space can be more equal and decentralized.

 

More than 150 professors and students from various majors, including media, engineering, business, and computer science attended the special lecture and talk, sharing Professor Tim Burners-lee's insights on the past, present, and future of the Internet.
